Saba Africa
Where Purpose Meets Scale
Lighting Up Communities. Unlocking Potential.
Saba Energy and PriVida have announced the launch of Saba Africa, a joint venture dedicated to accelerating renewable energy access and sustainable development across the African continent. The partnership’s first major initiative will be the deployment of 300 solar mini-grids in Nigeria under the World Bank’s Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) project, a significant step forward in addressing rural electrification challenges.
The project will deliver approximately 200 MW of solar generation and over 300 MWh of battery storage, connecting an estimated 500,000 households, businesses, telecom infrastructure, and healthcare centers over the next four years. By bringing electricity to rural communities for the first time, the project is set to unlock wide-ranging benefits—including enhanced economic opportunity, improved healthcare delivery, and better access to education.
“This partnership with Saba Energy represents a shared vision for tackling Africa’s energy challenges,” said Omozaphue Akalumhe, Founder and CEO of PriVida. “Our relationship has been built on trust and a joint commitment to delivering transformative projects. I’m proud of what we’re setting in motion with Saba Africa.”
Though this project marks a new chapter, the partnership builds on over four years of collaboration between Saba Energy and PriVida. Their close alignment in values, execution, and vision has culminated in the creation of Saba Africa—a platform poised to deliver large-scale, sustainable energy solutions across the continent.
Labeeb Baransi, Vice Chairman of Saba Energy, emphasized the human impact of the work:
“The launch of Saba Africa is the result of a partnership rooted in shared purpose. Our previous joint efforts laid the groundwork, and our visits to communities like Ejule-Alla in Kogi State—where electrification has already begun changing lives—have underscored the urgency of our mission. I believe Saba Africa will not only bring light to off-grid communities but also unlock the immense potential within them.”
Saba Africa aims to build on this momentum to drive scalable solutions across the continent. By integrating innovation, impact-driven design, and deep regional engagement, the partnership seeks to tackle energy poverty while contributing meaningfully to Africa’s development goals and global climate targets.
